Spread of Fauna in The World

 Greetings Geography!

Okay, this time we will discuss the distribution of fauna in the world, which is divided into several regions as shown in the following image.

1) Fauna of the Neartic Region

The fauna of the Neartic region extends from Greenland and North America to the center of Mexico. The region's typical fauna includes the marsupial rat, which lives in the desert region of

the East Pacific, several species of turtles, venomous snakes, and wild turkeys In addition, several types of palearctic animals, such as dogs, bats, squirrels, and rabbits, are found in this area.

2) Fauna of the Neotropical Region

The distribution area of the neotropical fauna region covers parts of Mexico, especially the southern part, Central America, South America, and the islands of the West Indies. The nature of the neotropical fauna varies greatly. There are those that are only found in certain areas, such as Piranha fish and electric eels, which can only be found around the Amazon River; llamas, a type of camel typical of Bolivia; and tapirs. Several other types of species live in the neotropical region, including several types of apes, reptiles, and other vertebrate animals.

3) Fauna

of the Palearctic Region The palearctic fauna region covers the continents of Europe, Russia, the northern part of the West Pacific coast, including Japan, the Mediterranean Sea, and the northern part of the African continent. Several types of animals originate from the palearctic region, including rabbits, rats, various dog species, and several types of bats.

By this time, the animals had spread to other areas. Several types of palearctic fauna still survive in their natural environments, including pandas in China, camels in North Africa, and northern polar animals such as deer and polar bears.

4) Fauna of the Ethiopian

Region The Ethiopian fauna region covers the regions of the African Continent south of the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert region, and the southern tip of Saudi Arabia. Several types of mammals are typical of the Ethiopian region, including African elephants, two-horned rhinoceros, hippos, gorillas, chimpanzees, and various mammals that live in grassland areas, such as zebras, giraffes, lions, and types of tigers. In addition, several types of palearctic fauna, such as rabbits, rats, dogs, squirrels, and antelopes, are still commonly found in the Ethiopian region.

An interesting phenomenon regarding the Ethiopian fauna region is the type of animal found on the island of Madagascar. According to the history of earth sciences, Madagascar is a part of the African continent that is separated so that several types of species typical of the Ethiopian region can be found on this island, such as the hippopotamus, although they are smaller in size. On the other hand, we can find several types of oriental-type animals. Other mammals scattered in the Madagascar region include ring-tailed lemurs, silky lemurs, woolly lemurs, wild boars, and bats.

5) Fauna of the Oriental Region

The distribution area of the oriental fauna region covers the regions of India, Indochina, Malaysia, and western Indonesia. Typical types of fauna of the oriental type include bears, bulls, one-horned rhinoceroses, orangutans, and Gabon. In addition, there are various types of fish and reptiles.

6) Fauna of the Australis

Region The Australian fauna region includes the regions of New Guinea, the Australian Continent, and the Island of Tasmania. This area is characterized by unique fauna types, such as marsupials (kangaroos), platypus, wallabies, and cuscus. Several bird species typical of the Australian region include birds of paradise, cassowaries, emus, and cockatoos. The types of reptiles that are often found here are pythons, stinging tiger snakes, crocodiles, and lizards.

So, that's the general distribution of fauna in the world according to region, namely, the Neartic, Neotropical, Palearctic, Oriental, Ethiopian, and Australis.
